“There are no secrets to success.
It is the result from preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” Colin Powell, Former U.S. Secretary Of State

I had dinner with a small group of friends and Colin Powell and he was quite an amazing individual. He exuded strength, power, and wisdom. I don’t believe these are gifts. Instead, I think these attributes are a result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure so below is my advice on applying this to living a health style.

1. Preparation is necessary to achieve any goal and especially important in today’s environment. Decide what you will eat and when you will exercise the day before. Make it an appointment and pack your food if you are traveling. Find healthy options at restaurants by looking up the menu online. Many people wind up working so much that they don’t eat till the end of the day. That is horrible for your metabolism and will not help you lose weight.

2. Hard work results ina strong defined body. Everyone likes to think killer bodies are a result of genetics, so let me set the record straight. These people work their butts off and eat really clean. If you want to get fitter, you have to up the intensity of your workout. That’s how you create change. Hollywood may say they eat whatever they want, but there are always pictures of them running and working out.

3. Learning from failure is essential for success. Falling has helped me understand what action are preventing me from achieving my goals. If you do the same thing every day, you get the same result. If you are working out and not seeing any results, start recording your daily calorie intake and exercise. Meet with a trainer and have them look at your program and advise you as to what changes are necessary to help you reach your goals.

Preparation, hard work, and learning from your failure will help you achieve the body and life of your dreams, so what are you waiting for? Get to it!
