First let me start off by saying my addiction to sweets started as a little kid. My Mom was a believer in everything natural so soda, candy, and sugar coated cereal was not allowed in our house. Our treat was the natural carob at the Health Food store down the street. That being said, my Grandfather would give us a goody bag filled of swedish fish, rolos, mike and ikes, tootsie rolls, skittles, and all that fun stuff. Because candy was such a forbidden treat in my home, it was my favorite.

Now that’s the history of my addiction to sweets, but as I’ve got older, I have realized that sugar will not improve my performance, energy, or physique. So in the last year, I have started to take a closer look at my diet.

I was starting my day with coffee and THREE splendas. Now Splenda is 600 times sweeter than white table sugar, so no wonder I was always making things sweeter! The splenda was numbing my taste buds so that fruit and normal sweets were never sweet enough.

The other question that still remains unanswered is how does MY body process the splenda. Some experts say that 30 percent of people process Splenda, Nutrasweet, and Equal as sugar in the body. What is scary is that there is not any long-term INDEPENDENT research! Could there be other negative effects?

The more sugar you eat, the more you crave. It will give you instantaneous energy, then you crash, and it just becomes a vicious cycle. I had to stop the madness. So I found a pretty cool solution for my morning sugar addiction. I no longer use splenda in my coffee. Instead, I drink my coffee with a scoop of chocolate protein powder and a little fat free Vanilla creamer. It tastes better, it provides protein and fiber for my body! It’s more filling and I don’t crave sugar all day. Try it and let me know what you think!
