Tips for Traveling Over the Holidays and Staying Fit

24 Dec

The holidays can be tough on your body and heading out of town can make it worse. Traveling over the holidays can easily add inches to your waistline, but only if you let it. How? Below I will list several ideas to help you stay in shape mentally and physically, but you must be proactive!

Tip 1: If you enjoy running, look up the weather forecast on http://www.weather.com. Pack your running sneakers and clothes appropriate for the weather. If you don’t know where to run, check out http://www.mapmyrun.com. This website will let you create a route from where you will be staying or you can select one of the routes already tested out. It will give you directions, mileage, and more. Your other option is to put on your running watch and explore the town. It can be fun to run without a plan!

Tip 2: Google health club in the town you will be visiting and then look up the clubs in that area. Many gyms offer free 1 day, 3 day, and 1 week packages. If not, call the gym and ask them if they have any special rates for the amount of time you would like to use it. If you do get a free pass and enjoy your experience, pay them back with a mention on twitter and facebook. Businesses need your support.

3. Cycling studios are showing up everywhere and a sure way to burn off those holiday goodies! Google cycling studio in your area and many of theses studios rent shoes as well so don’t worry if you forgot your sneakers!

4. Yoga studios are everywhere as well, so google yoga studios in your area and see if there are any comments about the studio or ratings. Most studios will rent mats so this is a good option if you forgot your shoes.

5. LA Boxing studios offer first timers a free class, so go to http://www.Laboxing.com and see if there is one in your area. If so, fill out the free class pass, but bring cash with you because some studios charge for gloves.

6. You can always bundle up and walk outside as well. Every 5 minutes, pick up your pace. Try to find hills and as you walk up, squeeze your glutes and pull your abdomen in while pumping your arms.

7. Rent a workout on the television. Look to see if there is the Exercise TV Channel or look at the options listed ON Demand for Comcast subscribers.

The way to resist weight gain is to be proactive and have a plan. Above I listed several options, now let me know what you decided to do. Just be sure to pack a pair or capris for the women or long pants for the men, a shirt, sneakers, and be sure to drink plenty of water!

Happy Holidays Superstars!
